Postponed: We Got The Love (Woodbridge Winter Light Festival Part 3), REGISTER FOR THE SQUARE HERE OR BOOK YOUE TABLE FOR DRINKS, TAPAS AND FULL MENU WITH THE BOATHOUSE

Music: DJ Ben Osborne. Light Art and visuals: Janice Oliver, Myogenic

We're so sorry to have to postpone tonight because of COVID, but, after one artist caught it we spent most of this week creating a show without them. We had new projectors up from London and until last night all looked good. But, with less than 24 hours to go, we've just had another COVID case, making it impossible to carry on. We're so thankful for the support everyone gave this event and all payments have been refunded. We'll return as soon as we can.

Woodbridge Festival returns to the Boathouse and the Tide Mill, to start the valentine weekend with a celebration of love.

Taking place beside the River Deben and its iconic Tide Mill, the night will see love themed projections and music on the Tide Mill, with music and visuals by Ben Osborne, Myogenic, Janice Oliver and friends.

The night will also see the return of Noise of Art’s Tide Mill Out. Recently featured on BBC Breakfast and Look East News, Tide Mill Out is an audio-visual project with music and imagery created entirely from internal recordings of the working tide mill. The show is then projected onto the exterior of the building.

Tide Mill Out on BBC Look East

The night is free entry, but audience members are being invited to share the love by having their valentine message projected onto the Tide Mill.

The Boathouse will be open for tapas, wines and beers and other refreshments. Whisstocks Square is home to the Tide Mill, Woodbridge Museum, Riverside Trust, Coffee Link, Games and Woodbridge Arts Club.

Woodbridge Festival of Art and Music launces Community Disco with Chris Coco (The Chill Out Tent/ Café Del Mar), Ben Osborne (Noise of Art/ Woodbridge Festival), and Smoothgroove and more TBA The Community Hall, Woodbridge IP12 4AU

Register for a ticket to attend (various prices). Doors Open 6:30pm

Woodbridge Festival kicks off its 2022 Winter Festival events with a return to the community hall of Ibiza legend Chris Coco joining host DJ Ben Osborne.

The new series of Community Hall Discos will see a roster of international names join local heroes spinning eclectic sets of disco, punk funk, electro, soul, house and hip hop. Shining light into the darkness of the winter, they will run through until spring 2022.

Chris Coco is an international DJ and producer, writer and radio presenter who’s DJed on every continent except Antarctica. He’s played all the major clubs in Ibiza, and at major festivals; including Glastonbury, Roskilde, Big Chill and Bestival. He was opening DJ for Robbie Williams' world tour and there are few DJs who have his breadth of musical knowledge and obsession with finding the perfect track.

Ben Osborne is described as a “polymath” by Time Out. He’s an award winning creative producer, and founder of Noise of Art (“an actual Cathedral of Sound” The Guardian) and DJs internationally at festivals and clubs, including Glastonbury, Sonar, Chateau Perché, MAMA Paris, Big Chill and Latitude. He’s also a journalist and author and has presented his own shows on Xfm (and with Ricky Gervais), NME Radio and Slack City Radio. He’s pioneered such things as late night music in galleries in London, immersive film experiences, and silent music and electronic music events in clubs, festival and theatres.

Smoothgroove is an electronic musician and a long serving veteran of Ipswich Community Radio, the UK's longest running community radio station. He carved his teeth in the early days of Berlin's thriving techno scene, where he also played alongside some of the foundig fathers of the Detroit scene.

The bar is operated by Vernon Blackmore (The Table/ Duck/ Anchor and Horse) and Saltpeter Wines, Woodbridge. Expect some deliciously funky flavours.

The Chill out tent Live

Richard is best known as a member of electronic dance band The Grid, who scored six Top 40 UK Singles Chart hits, including the million-selling “Swamp Thing”, which reached no.3 in the UK charts and was Top Ten in 10 countries.

Richard’s other acts include Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve, with Erol Alkan, while his career has seen him work with artists Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music), Marc Almond, Joe Strummer and the Pet Shop Boys.

During the lockdown he’s released a string of successful ambient works around his Group Mind online community, and his show tonight will reflect some of this work, as well as new, as yet unheard, more dance floor orientated music. He’s also back in the studio with The Grid with rumours of a new release in 2022.

The Chill Out Tent is a new Balearic gathering formed by DJ and producer Chris Coco during the first lockdown. Since inception it’s held monthly online live broadcasts and become an international sensation, with in the know followers watching live broadcasts from Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads – and California. It will hold its first full live show in a venue in Woodbridge.

Chris Coco is an international DJ and producer, writer and radio presenter who’s DJed on every continent except Antarctica. He’s played all the major clubs in Ibiza, and at major festivals; including Glastonbury, Roskilde, Big Chill and Bestival. He’s also a journalist and author and has presented his own shows on Xfm, NME Radio and Slack City Radio.

Chris Coco and Ben Osborne have been DJing together for decades, but have only been reunited by the pandemic, which interrupted their usually busy schedules – giving them time reconnect behind the decks.

With more dates to be announced, tickets are soon to go on sale for New Year’s Eve at The Boathouse.

Les Spain (legendary godfather of UK funk DJs), DJ Ben Osborne, Your Mum. Doors 6:30pm The Community Hall, Station Road, Woodbridge. IP12 4AU. Tickets prices from £8 HERE

Legendary godfather of UK funk DJs, Les Spaine, returns to play first club DJ set in three decades (re-arranged date).

Woodbridge Festival Art & Music presents a night of music and visuals with funk and soul icon Les Spaine, with Noise of Art’s DJ Ben Osborne and Your Mum.

The night will see Les resurrect his legendary Timepiece funk club for the first time since the 1970s. Timepiece was an all-night super club in Liverpool hosting 2000 people. The club became a magnet for touring American soul and funk acts, and led to Les heading-up Motown Records in the UK and working with such greats as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and The Supremes, The Jacksons, Kraftwerk, David Bowie, Maze, Aswad and many more.

The night will also feature DJ sets from Ben Osborne, with Your Mum.

The event is taking place near to the former US Airforce bases where Les played to US troops in the 1970s – when he was one of the few nationally recognised Funk DJs in the UK.

Les Spaine says: “I’m looking forward to getting back on the decks and doing an audio and visually enhanced DJ set which will be the first of a set of shows I will be doing around the UK in the next 12 months, proceeds of which will go towards the prostate cancer charity. Hope to see some of you funkanauts there!!”

Ben Osborne, DJ and programmer of Woodbridge Festival of Art and Music, and Director of Noise of Art, says: “Pioneering disco DJ Greg Wilson calls Les Spaine ‘a giant on whose shoulders all subsequent DJs are standing – whether they know it or not.’ And Greg would know. Les helped change music in this country and worked with the royalty of American soul and funk. This is a rare chance to see him play and revive Timepiece for the first time.”

The event is a collaboration with Aspire Black Suffolk and forms an ongoing part of our work with them, Noise of Art and The Power of Stories exhibition.
